Planet-Friendly Wrapping: Folding Furoshiki for Sustainable Gift-Giving

Planet-Friendly Wrapping: Folding Furoshiki for Sustainable Gift-Giving

Learn how you can incorporate the sustainable practice of furoshiki fabric wrapping into the upcoming holiday season! Japanese Studies Librarian Tomoko Kitayama Yen, Head of the Asian Library Shirin Eshghi Furuzawa, and student librarian Mizuki Giffin will provide context into the history and significance of furoshiki in Japanese culture, and will then facilitate a workshop on the folding of furoshiki fabric to be used as gift-wrapping.

Participants will receive Japanese cotton fabric along with instructions to create their own furoshiki. For those who wish, ready-made furoshiki will also be available for purchase. A limited number of sample furoshiki will be provided for use during the workshop. Participants are encouraged to create their own using the provided fabric.
