Planet-Friendly Wrapping: Making Furoshiki for Sustainable Gift-Giving
As we approach the holiday season, join us for the first of our two-part workshop series learning about the eco-friendly wrapping technique furoshiki. A traditional practice in Japan for centuries, furoshiki involves folding fabric for a variety of practical uses, including gift-wrapping. Dr. Elly Yazdanpanah, a post-doctoral fellow in Art Education at UBC, will guide us through sewing together sheets of furoshiki out of fabric remnants at this workshop. No previous experience is required, and all supplies will be provided to help you incorporate this unique and sustainable practice into your gift-giving.
This workshop is organized by UBC coordinators as part of the international Textile Cartographies Project, an arts-based participatory research group, and is hosted by the Department of Curriculum and Pedagogy
