Introduction to Docker

This workshop is meant to introduce you to the set of virtualization tools referred to as Docker, which allow you to use, create, and share container images. Containers create small reproducible computing workspaces on your computer. We'll cover the basics of Docker containerization and the platform of tools surrounding it. We'll also cover Docker's relevance to both general technical workplaces, and more specifically, reproducible digital scholarship research.

Curious about Docker before the workshop? Check out our Docker workshop materials.

Pre-workshop setup

Setting up Docker locally on your computer is optional. By doing so, you will have a reference point during the group learning activities. You can install Docker by following these instructions. You are not required to do so however, and may follow along with the workshop without installing it.

This workshop is part of the Core Skills series.
