#HonouringIndigenousWriters Research Sprint

#HonouringIndigenousWriters Research Sprint

When: February 25, 12 - 2pm, but drop-in whenever!

Where: Terrace Lab, iSchool @ UBC, Irving K. Barber Learning Centre

The First Nations and Indigenous Studies Program, UBC Library, and the Centre for Teaching and Learning Technology at the University of British Columbia will be hosting an Honouring Indigenous Writers Wikipedia Edit-a-Thon on March 2nd. This event hopes to increase the diversity of knowledge and voices about Indigenous writers within the Wikipedia open space.

In preparation for this event, we are hosting a research sprint in the Terrace Lab on Tuesday, February 25th from 12-2pm. Well documented systematic bias including information gaps, exclusions, diversity of articles and editors, and assumptions about neutrality and notability greatly impacts the information that can be found in Wikipedia, so we invite all interested iSchool students to come by to conduct research and build author information packages for our Wikipedia editors.

Let’s put your expert research and library search skills to use to help raise the profile of Indigenous writers on an increasingly influential information source! This is a drop-in event and feel free to come by at any time. Some laptops will be provided, but please bring your own device if possible.

Refreshments will be served!
