Speaking Professionally: From Classroom to Workplace

This workshop provides an evidence-based exploration of oral communication norms in typical classroom and workplace scenarios. Participants will be introduced to principles of rhetorical consciousness and preparatory strategies which can then be extrapolated to varied speaking scenarios, from classroom presentations to conference presentations and from discussion-based seminars to job interviews. This workshop is appropriate for both undergraduate and graduate students and for writers and speakers of English of any proficiency. It has been organized in conjunction with the TLEF-awarded initiative “Speaking in the Disciplines: A ‘Precedents’ Archive for Teaching and Learning Oral Genres.”
