An Introduction to AI and Copyright in Canada

Speaker: Dr. Graham Reynolds, Associate professor, UBC Allard School of Law

 

Description: This session will provide an introduction to some of the key issues involving AI and copyright in Canada. After providing a definition of AI, it will discuss issues at the intersection of AI and copyright including whether AI-generated works are capable of being protected by copyright; whether AI systems can infringe copyright; and what user rights are relevant in the context of AI. In addition to providing an introduction to the current law regarding AI and copyright in Canada, this presentation will also highlight several issues involving AI and copyright that may require legal reform.
