Christopher Haupt Performance and Event
Join us for a summer afternoon of poetry and music at the Koerner Library fireplace on July 23 at 3:30pm.
German poet and saxophonist Christopher Haupt will be visiting UBC Library for a performance of his Poetic Ark for Peace. This artist edition brings together Haupt's poetic works and multilingual translations of his work in an effort to build compassion and peace. Come experience this opportunity to see these materials held by Rare Books and Special Collections activated through a reading and music.
Born in Berlin in 1980, Christopher Haupt has been writing poems and stories since childhood. In particular, he has been influenced by the poetry of Hilde Domin, Nelly Sachs, Paul Celan, and Reiner Kunze, as well as Georg Trakl and Friedrich Hölderlin. As part of his German and music studies at the University of Oldenburg, he spent a formative time in the Bourgogne (France) and also worked in a bookshop in Paris. As an enthusiastic saxophonist, he often combines his poetry recitation with musical accompaniment. He has also been involved in the Association of German Writers since 2022. Christopher has lived with his family on the Frisian North Sea coast since 2013.
