OER Accessibility Drop In

Are you interested in making your course materials more accessible and barrier free for all learners? Join us for an informal drop-in where you can chat with accessibility consultants, educational designers, and colleagues about accessibility. The accessibility drop-ins are for anyone who is developing course content or open educational resources (OER) and who is curious about strategies or best practices for accessibility. Some topics that we will chat about include but not limited to:

  • How to create alt text for complex images

  • Impacts of different types of fonts and general font strategies

  • How different content types and layouts affect different learners

  • Accessibility strategies and settings for different learning technologies or platforms

  • Best practices for creating OER or sharing your materials openly

  • What to do with complex tables

  • Accessible use of colour contrasts and colourblind-friendly design

  • Common accessibility issues with slide design

  • Accessible design tips for H5P

Bring your questions, resources, projects, or ideas; this time is for discussing and learning together and peer to peer sharing is encouraged. Let’s work together to ensure that every learner can benefit from your materials!
