The Ancient Lyre: Music, Myth, Magic, and Philosophy
This intimate concert, accompanied by reconstructed ancient Greek instruments, explores ancient Mediterranean traditions of storytelling, philosophy, science, and mythology. We explore threads of inspiration from antiquity that contribute to the disciplinary traditions of the modern research university and library. Through discussions between each melody, we also explore the threads that weave the Muses of science, art, and the humanities in antiquity, by way of Plato’s interdisciplinary curriculum and the Library (Mouseion) of Alexandria.
Reconstructed instruments will be available for discussion. Featuring Thanasis Kleopas on the ancient lyre & vocals; Theodore Koumartzis on the ancient lyre; and Marios Podaras on the ancient pandura.
