SUMMARY:The Ancient Lyre: Music\, Myth\, Magic\, and Philosophy
DESCRIPTION:This intimate concert\, accompanied by reconstructed ancient
Greek instruments\, explores ancient Mediterranean traditions of
storytelling\, philosophy\, science\, and mythology. We explore threads of
inspiration from antiquity that contribute to the disciplinary traditions
of the modern research university and library. Through discussions between
each melody\, we also explore the threads that weave the Muses of science\,
art\, and the humanities in antiquity\, by way of Plato’s
interdisciplinary curriculum and the Library (Mouseion) of
Alexandria.\n\nReconstructed instruments will be available for discussion.
Featuring Thanasis Kleopas on the ancient lyre & vocals\; Theodore
Koumartzis on the ancient lyre\; and Marios Podaras on the ancient
pandura.\n\nLearn more at https://luthieros.com and listen to ancient world
music at https://www.youtube.com/seikilo. Supported and hosted in
collaboration with the Department of Ancient Mediterranean & Near Eastern
Studies (AMNE): http://amne.ubc.ca.\n\nThis event is free and open to the
public. If you have any questions\, please send an email to
