CGRS D: Crafting a Compelling Research Story

This workshop is designed for graduate students applying for the Canada Graduate Research Scholarship – Doctoral (CGRS D) from the national funding agencies: CIHR, NSERC, and SSHRC. Drawing on evidence-based research about successful grant proposals, the facilitator discusses particular elements of this written academic genre: audience, purpose, knowledge gap, competence claim, structure, style, and more. The workshop includes examples of successful UBC CGRS D research proposals, and embedded time to write.

Highlights of this in-person event include light refreshments (coffee, tea, snacks) and written feedback writing consultations with a doctoral peer from the Centre for Writing and Scholarly Communication. Writing consultations will take place in the days following the workshop. Bookings will be on a first come first served basis, available exclusively to workshop attendees.
