SUMMARY:Intriguing Connections' Blind Date with a Book: Music\, Author Readings\, and Book Exchange
DESCRIPTION:\n\nDiscover something unexpected this afternoon of author 
 readings and a playful community book exchange. Featuring writers of 
 science fiction\, romance\, and fantasy\, the event opens with music and 
 live readings that explore imagined worlds of intimacy and possibility.   
 Readings will include local authors\, including Louise Lee Hsiu (Penghu 
 Moon in the Well) and Phebe Ferrer.\n\nThen\, take part in a “blind 
 date” with a book. Bring a book you love\, wrapped so its identity is a 
 mystery. Add a single sentence that captures its essence\, along with up to 
 three descriptors (genre\, mood\, or themes). Browse\, swap\, and leave 
 with a story you’ve never heard.\n\nHosted with the community group 
 Intriguing Connections\, UBC Library invites audiences into an atmosphere 
 of curiosity\, connection\, and surprise.   Refreshments will be provided. 
 This event is funded by UBC's Inspiring Community 
 Grant.\n\nSpeakers\n\nLouise Lee Hsiu was born in Kaohsiung\, Taiwan\, 
 where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in the Humanities and three 
 certificates in English language studies. In 2002\, she moved to Canada to 
 pursue a writing career and has since completed two diplomas in Creative 
 Writing.  An award-winning author\, Louise has published ten books in 
 Taiwan across a range of genres\, including novels\, short stories\, 
 essays\, and poetry. She is currently translating Taiwanese poetry and her 
 own work from Chinese into English\, while also writing a series of stories 
 in both English and Taiwanese.\n\nPhebe M. Ferrer is a Filipina poet living 
 on the unceded lands of the Musqueam\, Squamish\, and Tsleil-Waututh 
 nations\, also known as Vancouver. Her poetry has been published in Qwerty 
 Magazine\, Marias at Sampaguitas\, and Chinatown Stories\, among others. As 
 an avid lover of poetry\, she has edited creative anthologies featuring 
 work by QTBIPOC artists with decomp journal and Chinatown Stories\, and 
 organized workshop series including Pamana: Exploring Family Histories and 
 from our roots to yours. Together with Steffi Tad-y\, Phebe co-leads the 
 Poesiya Collective\, where they host poetry workshops and book clubs on 
 themes of migration\, family histories\, and care.
