SUMMARY:Python Basics (2 of 5): Working with Data
DESCRIPTION:\nPython Basics for Data Analysis Series\n\nThis series of
introductory workshops are intended for individuals with little to no
familiarity with Python or similar tools that rely on a scripted
environment. They are intended as a low barrier entry into the world of
research computing through the Python language.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWorking
with Data (workshop 2 of 5): This session will address importing Excel and
comma separated value files into Python for analysis and address initial
data exploration. Topics covered include variable naming conventions\,
variable assignment\, missing values\, assigning data types to variables\,
 summaries (e.g.\, quartiles\, categories\, counts)\, and descriptive
 statistics (e.g.\, range\, length\, variance).\n\nBy the end of the
session\, participants should be able to import data stored in tabular
format (e.g.\, excel\, csv)\, standardize missing values for subsequent
tidying and analysis\, and use a suite of tools to comprehensively describe
their data and establish if it meets underlying criteria for subsequent
analysis.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nQuestions? Please reach out to the Centre for
Scholarly Communication at csc.ok@ubc.ca.\n\nA full schedule of workshops
 can be found at csc.ok.ubc.ca/workshops/
