SUMMARY:What are your thoughts on AI? A People's AI Micro-Consultation at UBC
DESCRIPTION:March 5\, 12pm-1pm | Peña Room (301) IKBLC\n\nContext\n\nIn
October 2025\, a federal taskforce was convened to gather stakeholder
opinions and develop a roadmap for AI in Canada. In an open letter\,
several Canadian human rights groups have objected to the way this
consultation was held however\, criticizing its short timeframe and limited
consultation of impacted communities. These groups have launched a
“People’s Consultation on AI”\, and are calling on the public to
contribute comments and participate in local discussions. The goal is to
allow the broader public to share their thoughts on AI strategy and to
broaden the previous federal consultation.\n\nDigital Tattoo Facilitated
Discussion \n\nThis discussion\, facilitated by The Digital Tattoo
Project\, will guide participants through an exploration of their personal
experiences and beliefs about AI. Participants will have the opportunity to
share their perspectives and their thoughts on how AI is impacting their
community\, and to learn from the experiences of the rest of the group.
\n\nThe facilitation will follow the structure outlined by the People’s
AI Consultation. At the end of the session\, we plan to draft a submission
to this consultation\, summarizing the concerns and comments raised
throughout.\n\nPre-reading\n\nBefore arriving\, please take some time
to:\n\n\n	Read the People’s AI Consultation Open Letter\n	Consider
reading more about any AI technologies and applications that you are
particularly interested in. For example\, the consultation lists some
relevant topics and news articles\, and The Digital Tattoo Project provides
several AI tutorials.\n\n\nReflect on your experiences with AI\, and
prepare one or two examples to share with the group.
